Traveling an Hour to Work

OR:  Living vicariously through my iPod.

I have come to the conclusion that the iPod has become the single-most necessary piece of entertainment technology in the past decade.  This fact is almost completely tied to the mobility of our society.  We may spend a couple thousand on a new television, but most of our content is coming from the internet now, so unless you have an internet-capable TV (or Blu-Ray Player) you’re missing out on the youtube videos that make the watercooler at the office the next day.  The short-term solution for this used to be to look it up at your desk later, but  now it is to look it up on your iPod right then.  Smartphones do the same thing, and you can do it in more places with the available cellular technology, but none of those have 73% market penetration (as of 2008, the iPod had 73% market share in mp3 players).

Arguably because of that market share, or causing it (my opinion is through a symbiotic relationship), there is a huge penetration of iPod capable devices; from car-kits to batteries to cases, everything is made for the iPod.  There was even a camera that had an app available once that allowed its owner to transfer directly to an iPod, but it only worked with one model, and only on a certain iPod, and it didn’t work too well, so it was discontinued. The point I’m getting at is that it is easy to live through your iPods, for iPods to be a very accurate reflection of who we are.  So what does your iPod say about you?
